When a new member comes into the family, the house must be well-prepared for every stage of a child’s growth. “Baan Vacharaphol” is a two-storey house renovation project in Sai Mai, where the owner intends to have a life among nature that is within reach every single day.
.
Such a request has led to a space design that connects functions together and opens up to nature, for example, changing the Study & Living space into a semi-outdoor area by using a folding door to open and connect with a wooden terrace, a 3 x 7 m swimming pool and gardens to the west of the house. This terrace also serves as a circulation that connects a Thai kitchen, a dry kitchen and a dining area. To promote an airy and comfortable ambience in the house, we modify the doors and windows to let natural light in and help thoroughly ventilate the indoor spaces.
.
We also hide small courtyards inside and around the house to promote lively ambience and allow residents access to nature through seeing, hearing, smelling, and touching, despite this site being in a housing estate with limited spaces and high urbanization. These courtyards include a backyard garden, an outdoor bathroom and a bedroom court that acts as a buffer between a bedroom and parking lots.
.
In terms of materials, we have chosen to use locally sourced and handcrafted products that are simple and have a natural touch, such as hardwood floor timbers, terracotta tiles, color coated terracotta tiles, raw concretes and wood frames. More interestingly, we use translucent corrugated roofs in some spaces to gently illuminate the house. Other materials with various textures are also utilized in the landscape, for instance, stones tiles, river gravels, crushed stones and Sukabumi stones for the swimming pool floor.
