From "Baan Lek Villa," a cozy vacation home nestled in the homely ambiance of Chanthaburi, comes the new "Ruean Lek" designed to enhance the owner's privacy and accommodate guests in a quaint home café. The design remains true to its roots, preserving the essence of vernacular Thai architecture.

.

The primary element of our design was elevating the house on stilts to create a space for a café on the first floor, which has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere and connects people with nature in a way that is reminiscent of traditional architecture. Folding doors were used instead of solid walls on two sides. They can be fully opened to let in the breeze on pleasant days while maintaining comfort during hot or rainy weather. The other side was designed as a decorative wall that features a grid-like wall structure that serves as multi-purpose shelving, separating awning windows, glass panels, and translucent panels that softly filter natural light. A long counter bar arranged along the length of the space is perfectly fitted with a wooden coffee bar, fostering a harmonious atmosphere between the garden, house, guests, and barista.

.

Ascending the exterior staircase, reminiscent of a rural home, one arrives at a wooden veranda beneath the eaves. This area is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the breeze before entering the main living quarter. The interior is simple and open, featuring a spacious work desk ideal for drafting blueprints. Next to it, a futon and an outdoor-inspired bathroom complete the layout. The entire space is designed to facilitate continuous ventilation from front to back, with a gable roof to dissipate heat.

.

Additionally, we have employed building materials that reflect a simple lifestyle and natural surroundings, while having a contemporary aesthetic, consistent with the spirit of Baan Lek Villa. These include metals, wood, handmade bricks, and terracotta tiles, which are easily sourced from the locals.
